The importance of biblical praise songs in girding ourselves with the power of the Holy Spirit.

During the Old Covenant, it was of great and even decisive importance in the temple service and also in war situations that the temple singers chosen for their duties constantly praised Yehowah Elohim, inspired by the Holy Spirit, accompanied by various musical instruments.

Also in this Grace era of the New Covenant, the importance of praise is irreplaceable, for the Holy One of Israel still lives in the praise of his people!
 Ps. 22:3-5

>>3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. 4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. 5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
<<

The Apostle Paul exhorted the Ephesians to do so in Ephesians 5:18-20, and it is also written as an instruction for us to be girded with the power of the Holy Spirit.

>>
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Yehowah; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto Elohim and the Father in the name of our Adonai Yeshua HaMashiach. <<

Reflections on shabat, August 23, 2025

Rescue came at the very last minute!

This is a true story about a friend of mine from the late 1960s. I will use the pseudonym Matti for him. He started studying at mechanical engineering school a year before I did. In addition to his hard factory work, he studied at high school in the evenings and graduated that spring with excellent grades. He had got a good job right after his studies and was engaged to a lovely young woman.

His life situation could hardly have been better. On a beautiful spring day, he went to buy a bottle of sleeping pills from the pharmacy. He went to his home, where he lived alone, and in the evening he took the entire bottle of those pills and went to sleep.

Only his older brother had the key to his apartment. His older brother was allowed to travel unexpectedly, without telling his younger brother, from northern Finland to Helsinki on the southern coast of Finland. He arrived at his apartment that very evening and rang the doorbell. When no one answered, he opened the door and planned to spend the night at his brother's, as he usually did when visiting Helsinki.

When he looked into his brother's bedroom, he saw him sleepy and an empty bottle of sleeping pills on the bedside table. He was horrified and checked his brother's pulse. It was almost nonexistent. He immediately called an ambulance and Matti was rushed to the hospital's intensive care unit. There he had a gastric lavage, was put on an intravenous drip and a respirator, a breathing machine.

The doctor said that the situation was very serious and that Matti only had a matter of minutes to survive!

Matti recovered completely and later told me about the incident. I asked him why he tried to commit suicide? He said that he really didn't understand himself, because his life situation was so good and he had a bright future ahead of him. He thought that the only reason for it was that he had exhausted himself mentally and tried far too much for his strength. He was very surprised that his older brother, who had not been to Helsinki for a few months, arrived at his place that very evening (?)

What does this incident teach us?

If Adonai gives us the heart to contact or visit an acquaintance or relative, it may indeed be a matter of life and death for Him! Therefore, we should always be obedient to His voice!

We also learn from this incident that Almighty Adonai Yeshua watches over us from His throne, from heaven, and receives messages from each person’s guardian angel about what is happening to us and whether we need urgent help.
