Reflections on Shabat, 16th August 2024

The more current astrophysicists (studies of the stars and space)
explore the stars, planets and space, the more clearly they state
how our unique habitable planet is and how beautiful it is in space!
According to the Bible, it is on its way to total destruction because of the Fall.

Is the earth unique in the eyes of the Creator?

It appears from the Bible that the creation of the earth and everything was a very pleasant activity for him and he expected everything to be successful, because he had carefully planned everything related to it. All creation succeeded brilliantly, because before this he had already created the heavens and the heavens of heavens with their huge angelic hosts. We see a glimpse from the book of Job, how the creatures created by our Creator even before the creation of the earth watched the creation of the earth: Job 38:4-7

>>4 "Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you possess understanding! 5 Who set its measurements - if you know - or who stretched a measuring line across it? 6 On what were its bases set, or who laid its cornerstone - 7 when the Morning Stars sang in chorus, and all the Sons of Elohim shouted for joy?<<

In verse 7, the Morning Stars mean high-ranking angelic princes (cherubim and seraphim) and the Sons of Elohim are those, some of whom had been led astray by the cherub Lucifer*) into rebellion against their Creator even before the creation of the earth. Because they had the ability to also take on a body of flesh and blood, i.e. a human-like form, they were able to marry the daughters of Adam and Eve (Genesis 6:2-4), who bore them offspring before the flood and also after it.

*) It seems that the cherub Lucifer was one of the Sons of Elohim, for he is mentioned to have twice attended a meeting in heaven where Elohim and his Sons were present. Job 1:6 and 2:1. If Lucifer was a highly respected spirit being before his rebellion, even the Son of Elohim, then it is easy to understand why Elohim was so patient and long-suffering towards him. He perhaps hoped that he would repent and return 'like a renegade boy' to him begging for mercy and forgiveness(?)

Was Absalom's fate also a parable of Lucifer?

Absalom was the most handsome of King David's many sons and he conspired against his father to dethrone him. He was very cunning in the way he got the majority of the men of Israel to his side. From the Bible we know how much David loved his son Absalom despite all his wickedness. He wept bitterly when he heard that Joab, his general, had killed Absalom in the battle in the forest of Ephraim.

I think it describes well how much Elohim loved his creation Lucifer. He tells us what kind of creation this was in the beginning. Hez. 28:12-16 (Here he is compared to the king of Tyre)

>>12 "Son of man, sing a lament for the king of Tyre, and say to him, 'This is what the Sovereign Yehowah says:"'You were the sealer of perfection, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

13 You were in Eden, the garden of Elohim. Every precious stone was your covering, the ruby, topaz, and emerald, the chrysolite, onyx, and jasper, the sapphire, turquoise, and beryl; your settings and mounts were made of gold. On the day you were created they were prepared.

14 I placed you there with an anointed guardian Cherub; you were on the holy mountain of Elohim; you walked about amidst fiery stones. 15 You were blameless in your behavior from the day you were created, until sin was discovered in you.

16 In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned; so I defiled you and banished you from the mountain of Elohim - the guardian Cherub expelled you from the midst of the stones of fire.
<<

The characteristics of verse 12 perfectly fit Absalom as well. When we read the Book of Revelation, we notice that in the near future there will be a decisive battle in heaven between the Devil and Archangel Michael's war angels. As a result, the Devil will be cast down from heaven, where he has until then been accusing before the throne of Elohim all the people he has caused to sin, day and night. It will happen to him as it happened to the king of Tire in ancient times: Rev. 12:7-9

>>7 Then war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But the dragon was not strong enough to prevail, so there was no longer any place left in heaven for him and his angels. 9 So that huge dragon - the ancient Serpent, the one called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world - was thrown down to the earth, and his angels along with him.<<

Who was and is the Serpent of Paradise?

It seems that the animal did not have to crawl on its stomach in the beginning, because crawling was given to it as a punishment for betraying Eve, who also fell Adam. We already notice from the previous chapter that Lucifer was also in Eden's paradise, like Adam and Eve. Next, we read how the 'serpent' was punished: Genesis 3:14-15

>>14 Yehowah Elohim said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you above all the wild beasts and all the living creatures of the field! On your belly you will crawl and dust you will eat all the days of your life. 15 And I will put hostility between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring; her offspring will attack your head, and you will attack her offspring's heel."<<

The 'serpent' in Paradise was perhaps a somewhat human-like wild animal that could speak and was used by the Devil as an intermediary to do harm to his Creator, i.e. in revenge for being cast out of Eden, the Paradise in the spiritual dimension(?) If this happened, then why did our Creator allow it happen?

Our creator knew in advance what could happen

Since our Creator is Almighty, he did not have to take 'unnecessary pressure' on what the Devil might do. Therefore, according to the following parable, it happened sadly: Matt. 13:24-30

>>24 He presented them with another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a person who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.

26 When the plants sprouted and bore grain, then the weeds also appeared. 27 So the slaves of the owner came and said to him, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from?'

28 He said, 'An enemy has done this.' So the slaves replied, 'Do you want us to go and gather them?' 29 But he said, 'No, since in gathering the weeds you may uproot the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At harvest time I will tell the reapers, "First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned, but then gather the wheat into my barn."'"
<<

I'll make a comment on this a bit. The master of the family (Elohim) knew that his enemy (the Devil) would stop at nothing to harm him and his creatures. The question is, why didn't he put a night watch on his posts?

I understand very well that Adam and Eve's trust in their Creator had to be tested, but whether they had enough time to learn to know their Creator as only telling the truth before being tested, and whether it was clear to them what the consequences of their disobedience would be for many generations after them, that remains a mystery and not the Bible tell us enough about it I think.

Adonai Yeshua explained that parable to his disciples as follows: Matt. 13:37b-42

>>37..."The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world and the good seed are the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the Devil

The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 As the weeds are collected and burned with fire, so it will be at the end of the age.

41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom everything that causes sin as well as all lawbreakers. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
<<

I will comment on this as well a bit. From the explanation, one gets the idea that the parallel children of Elohim and the children of the Devil live in the world. Like two completely different human races. This does go a long way in explaining why our Creator treats the Devil's children - most of humanity - with great hostility and, in my opinion, quite rightly so. But why doesn't our Creator also guide them to know the truth, since they have been misled by the Devil as we were?

It seems that the fall caught our Creator by surprise

It is hard to believe that the Creator would have already planned in the beginning that the great majority of people will be thrown from the last judgment to Hell, to the Devil and his angels. It also supports this view that our Creator chose to offer his only begotten Son as a vicarious sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. In addition, the constant and even millennia-long power struggle between our Creator and this chosen nation of Israel gives a signal that such a thing was not planned at the beginning.

This view is most supported by the reference I gave in my Bible study last Sabath to how our Creator reacted to the corruption on earth that followed the Fall. It was close that he did not destroy all creation with people and animals. Also, the transgression of the Sons of Elohim in their union with the daughters of men only increased immorality on earth. Genesis 6:4-7

>>4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days (and also after this) when the sons of Elohim were having sexual relations with the daughters of humankind, who gave birth to their children. They were the mighty heroes of old, the famous men.

5 But Yehowah saw that the wickedness of humankind had become great on the earth. Every inclination of the thoughts of their minds was only evil all the time. 6 Yehowah regretted that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was highly offended.

7 So Yehowah said, "I will wipe humankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth - everything from humankind to animals, including creatures that move on the ground and birds of the air, for I regret that I have made them." 8 But Noah found favor in the sight of Yehowah.

The above event is difficult for people to understand

For these reasons, I feel that the following verses need further explanation:

A) Rev. 13:7-8
>>7 The beast was permitted to go to war against the saints and conquer them. He was given ruling authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation, 8 and all those who live on the earth will worship the beast, everyone whose name has not been written since the foundation of the world in the book of life belonging to the Lamb who was killed.<<

B) Rom. 8:28-32 >>28 And we know that all things work together for good for those who love Elohim, who are called according to his purpose, 29 because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

30 And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified. 31 What then shall we say about these things? If Elohim is for us, who can be against us?

32 Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, freely give us all things?<<

C) Rev. 20:12-15
>>12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne. Then books were opened, and another book was opened - the book of Life. So the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their deeds.

13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each one was judged according to his deeds.

14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death - the lake of fire. 15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire.
<<

D) Ps. 145:8-9
>>8 Yehowah is merciful and compassionate; he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love. 9 Yehowah is good to all, and has compassion on all he has made.<< I believe this only because I have had the grace to encounter Him a few times and I know that His innermost being is perfect love! Therefore, I understand how difficult it is for those who have never met him to believe in the Elohim of love. The text of the Bible alone does not tell enough about him, unless the Holy Spirit makes it come alive in the heart of the reader and listener!

As you can see from the above, I am not at all defending the actions and behavior of our Creator towards the people and spirit beings he created, because he does not need me to defend himself. I greatly wonder that according to the Bible, the vast majority of mankind, at least 10 billion, will eventually be thrown into hell and suffer there forever! It is an extremely severe punishment and much more severe than some nations being completely destroyed from the face of the earth!

Please tell me what thoughts this Bible study evoked in you?
(I hope you don't answer, for example, 'Unsearchable are the ways of Elohim', although that is also true.)
