Reflections on Shabat, 4 April, 2025

April 2 I went to the Turku Main Library to read the day's news. An old man I didn't know sat down in front of me. He asked me: "How is the lord?" I replied: "The Lord upstairs is doing very well." He got confused and said: "Everyone can believe what they want." Then I said: "I have been a believer since I was 3 years old and I know Him very well." That reminded me of those verses Jer. 9:23-24.

Why do men in particular strive to win over others?

They strive to win wisdom, power and wealth because they are the means to success in this world. The wiser, stronger and richer you are, the more you are valued, respected and even worshipped as an idol! Today, it does not even matter how honestly wisdom, wealth and power were acquired.

But do excessive wisdom, power and wealth make their owner happy? In the Bible we can read that King Solomon of Israel, who was gifted with great wisdom by Jehovah, was very disappointed with everything he saw around him and finally said: "...Everything is vanity and a striving after wind." Eccl. 1:14

>>I have seen all the works which are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and striving after wind!<<

The desire to win over everyone else is fundamentally selfishness and lack of love for all our neighbors. There is an earthly wisdom and a heavenly wisdom that differs from it. We need both of them when we live in the world. We also need mental and physical strength and wealth in work life and in human relationships.

What we need most is to know our Creator and the great plan of salvation that he has prepared. Even if we were to live longer than others in our great wisdom and avoid great dangers and falls in our lives and gain respect from others with our great wealth, in the end we will all die and our wealth will stay here.

Why do almost all people pursue vanity?

They do not understand the true purpose of their existence. We will realize it only after we have found a living connection with our Creator. The same connection that our ancestors Adam and Eve lost as a result of the fall into sin in paradise. That connection is formed when we believe in Adonai Yeshua.

If we believe that he is the Son of the Most High and the only bringer of salvation for us sinners and those on the road to perdition, then we will carefully find out what he taught. So let us read his teachings in the New Testament day by day and begin to put them into practice. Genuine faith opens the gates of heaven!

Because of their unbelief, people today are more fearful than ever about what they would eat, or what they would drink, or what they would wear. In addition, there are numerous other real and artificial needs to satisfy their desires. But there are very few real needs: the inner knowledge of Adonai Yeshua.

So what should we aim for first?

Let us seek to know the Savior within and ask Him to be the Counselor of our hearts in all the small and large decisions of our lives. Then we will find Him guiding our lives through His Holy Spirit and Word and carrying out His plan of salvation for us day by day.

About Adonai Yeshua is mysteriously prophesied through Solomon:
Prov. 8:34-36

>>
34 Blessed is the man listening to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoever finds me finds life, and he shall obtain favor from Yehowah. 36 But he who sins against me does violence to his own soul; all who hate me love death.<<

Please, note: Our Savior's original name in Hebrew is Yeshua HaMashiach HaNotzri
