>>15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacks daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm and eat well," but you do not give them what the body needs, what good is it? 17 So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead being by itself. << Jak. 2:15-17
During my long life of faith, I have observed that many Christians too often focus only on themselves and their own well-being. Then they forget their neighbors near and far, who are hungry, homeless and without a helping hand.
As servants of the New Covenant, we are called to help our suffering neighbors who believe in Adonai Yeshua as our sisters and brothers. They truly are, for after they came to faith, they received the spirit of Elohim's childhood and together with them we have the same heavenly Father, Yehowah Elohim.
In this work of helping, the teachings of the NT apply: Helping is pleasing to Adonai according to the means and opportunities we have. If we do not have them, then we can at least pray and advise those in need of help to the place and to the people who can help. There are charitable organizations in almost all countries.
As already evident from the verse in the picture Leviticus 19:34, the motive for helping should be genuine love for our neighbors. Our Savior Adonai Yeshua emphasized the same thing in Matthew 22:37-40, when he was asked, "What is the greatest commandment in the Law of Moses?"
>>37 Yeshua said to him, "'Love the Yehowah your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 The second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."<<
The consequences of acts of love
The recipient of help is (mostly) grateful and praises his Creator for the help he received and wants to be our friend on earth and in heaven forever! Making friends with 'false mammon', that is, by helping them in financial distress, is noble even in the eyes of most people, whether they are believers or not!
Our Creator watches us and when he notices some of us following the teachings of Adonai Yeshua, he notes them down. We immediately feel good and will notice in the coming times wonderful care in our lives when we ourselves are in need of help. I have experienced this often in my life.
P.S. 1 You can check out the interesting stages of my life from the link below. My life has been a great adventure. There have been successes and setbacks. Adonai Yeshua has always helped me!
P.S. 2 I have also prepared these studies in Finnish. They consist of selected Bible translations and include various hymns:
